The Portwest PS73 Height Endurance Mountaineer Helmet is a vented, peakless safety helmet for working at height, rescue work and climbing. Inner EPS foam means it is certified to EN 12492 as a helmet for mountaineers, and it also meets the impact and penetration requirements of EN 397. A Y-style 4-point chin strap keeps it on your head while you move and climb. For pure climbing use, it can be worn from -20°C to +35°C, the EN 12492 test range.

Key features

  • Made for work at height: designed for working at height, rescue and climbing, with a Y-style 4-point chin strap.
  • Two standards: certified to EN 12492 and tested to the EN 397 impact and penetration requirements, including at -30°C.
  • Comfortable fit: a sweatband and wheel ratchet headband adjust from 52 to 63 cm.
  • Light and robust: an ABS shell with vents and an inner expanded polystyrene foam liner.
  • Works with accessories: fits the PA03 eye protector, PS58 visor holder, PW47 and PS47 clip-on ear muffs and HV extreme ear defenders.

What it protects against. PS73 is intended to protect you against falling objects and the brain injury and skull fracture they can cause. A helmet can greatly reduce the risk of serious head injury at height, but it cannot remove it. In a major impact the helmet deforms to absorb energy, so replace it after any strong impact, even if you cannot see damage.

Check it every day. Before each use, look over the shell inside and out for cracks or deformation, check the webbing and stitching, and make sure the ratchet and chin strap buckle work. Do not paint it, add stickers or fit accessories in ways Portwest does not recommend. It lasts up to 7 years from the manufacturing date marked inside the shell, as long as it is undamaged.

Colours and sizes. PS73 comes in White, Black, Orange, Royal Blue, Red and Yellow, one size (52 to 63 cm).
