The Portwest FC38 Composite Leather Ankle Boot is an S3S safety boot with a wire lace system for fast, one-handed adjustment and quick release. A non-metallic composite toecap and midsole protect the foot, and a padded collar and tongue keep it comfortable. Its tread pattern helps you stay agile on uneven ground.
Key features
- One-handed fit: a quick release wire lace system adjusts fast and gives a secure fit.
- Non-metallic protection: a composite toecap and pierce resistant composite midsole, with a non-magnetic, nickel and ferrous free build that is metal detector friendly.
- Sure footing: a dual density, slip resistant sole with a tread pattern that helps on uneven terrain and resists fuel, oil and water.
- Heat resistant: the outsole is heat resistant to 300°C.
- Comfort for long days: an EVA footbed, padded collar and tongue, and an energy absorbing seat region.
About the wire lace system. The wire is double strength for durability. The dial has a raised texture for better grip and a rubberised chassis to resist abrasion, and a push/pull clasp releases it quickly. Central cavities spread the tension across the top of the foot for a level fit.
Small details that help. Reflective trim adds visibility. A bellows tongue helps keep water out, a scuff cap protects the toe and a back pull-tab helps you get the boot on. The angled top line gives a better fit and lets the leg flex, and the boot is anti-static.
What S3S means. Under EN ISO 20345:2022, S3 footwear has a closed heel area, energy absorption in the seat region, anti-static properties and resistance to water penetration and absorption, plus perforation resistance and a cleated outsole. The S in S3S means a non-metal insert (type PS).
Colours and sizes. FC38 comes in Black, in UK sizes 2 to 12 (EU 35 to 47), including UK 6.5 and 10.5.

Care
Care
Clean regularly with a good proprietary cleaning product, never a caustic one. Let wet boots dry naturally somewhere cool and dry; do not force dry. Check the stitching, tread and sole bond before use, and replace the boots if they are damaged or the toe has taken a heavy impact.
Product FAQs
Product FAQs
What does S3S mean?
Under EN ISO 20345:2022, S3 footwear has a closed heel, energy absorption in the seat region, anti-static properties, resistance to water penetration and absorption, perforation resistance and a cleated outsole. The S means a non-metal insert (type PS).
Is the FC38 metal detector friendly?
Yes. It has a non-metallic composite toecap and midsole and is non-magnetic, nickel and ferrous free.
How does the wire lace work?
Turn the dial to tighten it with one hand, and use the push/pull clasp to release it quickly.
Is it anti-static?
Yes. Anti-static footwear reduces static build-up, but it cannot guarantee protection against electric shock.
